Together with Museum Panorama Mesdag, the Embassy of the North Sea has invited artists to offer new panoramas and perspectives — in the spirit of Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten — on the relationship between humans and the dune landscape, the North Sea, and the Dogger Bank.
RESILIENCE & MOVEMENT
Around that often-forgotten underwater land, the Dogger Bank, a movement has emerged. This shallow sandbank of over 25,000 km² lies in the middle of the North Sea—an area almost as large as Belgium. Above and below the waves, its richness can be found—sharks, rays, cod, herring, whales, and birds—but its ecology has been severely degraded. Driven by this urgency, the Embassy of the North Sea (NL), ARK Rewilding (NL), Blue Marine Foundation (UK), BUND (DE), Doggerland Foundation (NL), and WWF (DK), together with many other partners, will work in the coming years towards a healthy and resilient Dogger Bank through reef restoration, legal action, research, imagination, and fostering a broad public dialogue about the possible and desirable futures of the North Sea.
SCHOOL OF DOGGER BANK
Some of the artists in the exhibition DRIFT are affiliated with the School of Dogger Bank. The School of Dogger Bank is a research and imagination programme aimed at strengthening the democratic dialogue about the North Sea and amplifying the voices and interests of the Dogger Bank within human society.

- Improving the position of—and life around—the Dogger Bank requires new maps, stories, and images. To this end, we are organizing, among other things, a 21-day sailing expedition in May 2027. On June 10, 2026, we will conduct a one-day trial voyage on the North Sea. Would you like to join? Send a short motivation to: info@ambassadevandenoordzee.nl
